HYDERABAD : In a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka on Tuesday in a group stage match of the Cricket World Cup 2023 at Hyderabad, Pakistan completed the greatest ODI run chase.
The Green Shirts were able to reach their target of 345 runs in 48.2 overs because to the valiant undefeated innings of 131 runs by Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique, who made his world cup debut.
Imam-ul-Haq (1) and Babar Azam (10) were bowled out in a lethargic opening powerplay, giving Pakistan’s pursuit a poor start. Dilshan Madushanka claimed both wickets.
However, Pakistan managed to steady the ship and create a foundation thanks to Abdullah Shafique, who scored his first century on the first day of the world cup and formed a sizable partnership with Mohammad Rizwan.
Saud Shakeel replaced Rizwan on the crease after Matheesha Pathirana removed Shafique for 113 runs, although he was only able to provide the latter a little help. Iftikhar kept up the pace after Shakeel was eliminated for 31 to guarantee Pakistan’s second consecutive victory in the competition.
