Just one month before the Ashes series begins, James Anderson has experienced a “mild strain to his right groyne,” according to a late Sunday announcement from the England and Wales Cricket Board.
The injury occurred on the first day of Lancashire’s County Championship match against Somerset at Old Trafford on Thursday. The 40-year-old Anderson, who has 685 Test wickets to his credit, was unable to continue playing in the game, which was drawn on Sunday.
Anderson’s fitness will be evaluated closer to the commencement of the first Test against Ireland at Lord’s, which begins on June 1.
