UEFA said on Friday that Istanbul will host the 2023 Champions League final, rejecting rumours that the competition will be shifted due to political unrest.
“UEFA would like to clarify its position on the 2023 Champions League final,” the association said in a statement. “As scheduled, Istanbul will host the 2023 UEFA Champions League final on June 10, 2023.”
“UEFA has had no contrary discussions with any political organisations, governments, or national football associations,” the statement reads.
Media reports earlier on Friday suggested that the match would be moved to Lisbon because of potential unrest in Turkey’s capital following the presidential election on May 14.
